January has been a month of changes for me. I've adapted, adjusted, tweaked, erased, updated and more. Honestly, I'm getting a lot better at it - and it's a good thing because being a small business owner has taught me so many things - but the most important lesson has been to figure out what works for YOU and then do THAT.
I am [generally] a rule follower. I will rage against the dumb rules, but I will follow them until I can get them changed. But what I am discovering with lots of things surrounding Hardin Heights Communications, LLC., is that most of the rules set up are guidelines, suggestions, and things that worked for some other business owner. That doesn't guarantee it'll work for me.
And here's the biggest thing - I'm in charge! I can change the rules for me! I can choose to NOT follow the guidelines. When LinkedIn says don't schedule posts - we'll de-prioritize you - I can schedule posts and let them de-prioritize me. My subscribers and my followers are still reading, commenting, and seeing my posts. Sometimes new people see them too - I know this because they ask to follow me or sign up to read my articles and my newsletter.
Here are the biggest changes I've made in January:
Recognized the importance of getting good at changing.
I worked with an awesome copywriter - Becky Whittaker (5-stars, would recommend) to make my website and my marketing language stronger, bolder and more aligned to what I want to do for clients.
I updated my home page to focus on the 4 services I deliver. I am in the process of shortening the list of services I provide. Niching down - woot!
Signed up for a 5 week class taking a deep dive into my email marketing system - week 1, day 3, learning like crazy!
I wrote my 2025 goals, and promptly changed one of them [not even] 2 weeks later. Hey, I found a better way to capture what I'm doing - why keep going down the wrong path?
I am updating all my stuff on demand - if I have an idea - I am changing things on the fly.
So here we are in January - new starts, new year. My January has been filled with changes ALREADY and I expect you'll see a lot of this happening all year. What a great month it's been - can't wait to see what changes next!
